Christine Chan Architecture is a full-service firm specializing in residential architectural design in the Washington metropolitan area.

With a background in Chinese painting and architectural training in Chicago, Christine brings a sensible design approach to each project while maintaining its original integrity. Her design style is serene and timeless with an intuitive understanding of space and light. Christine works intimately with all her clients and helps them navigate through the complex process of design and construction to realize their ideas. Since establishing her practice in 2008, every project has been through client referral.

Christine earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Architecture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, including a year of study in Versailles, France. She obtained her license in 2001. During 12 years at prestigious firms in Chicago and Los Angeles, she worked on a variety of building types from high-end condominiums to mixed-use high rises and museums.

After relocating to the D.C. area and while on maternity leave, Christine helped family and friends with their home renovations and additions. Attracted by the flexibility of working from home while taking care of her children, she started her own practice.

Christine finds inspiration in Washington’s European planning, and still marvels at the cascade of spring and fall colors here. In her free time, Christine enjoys taking her corgi on long walks, practicing yoga, and seeking out the latest fabulous restaurants and cafes with her friends. She and her husband, also an architect, love traveling with their two children and introducing them to different cultures, cuisines, and architecture.
