MID-CENTURY Modern COLLECTORS’ HOUSE

The Carderock Springs neighborhood is dotted with interesting mid-century houses like this one. The client desperately needed a new kitchen and a better master suite as well as direct access from the garage to the house. With a deep overhang and being situated in the woods, the house was dark and gloomy despite having many windows.

A new entry foyer was added to connect the garage and the house as well as creating space for closets. The existing screened porch was enclosed to accommodate the overall program of having a large kitchen, a dining room and a good size living room to fit their extensive, vintage classic furniture collection. Ample wall space was provided for their eclectic folk arts collection. The 2,270sf addition and renovation weave together the existing house seamlessly.
